ArtLab is the inspiring and powerful, cross sectorial, independent Italian platform, dedicated to innovating practices and policies in and through arts and culture, by the structured dialogue among the key stakeholders of the cultural and creative ecosystem, in an international perspective. The 2019 edition of ArtLab consists of two main events: Milan (June 27-28) and Bari-Matera (October 24-26) characterized by the presence of an extensive and high level international experiences and actors with the purpose of a programmatic and operational exchange in order to find the most effective conditions and processes for the development of the cultural and creative ecosystem. ArtLab includes, in addition to the two main events, also three laboratories in Treia, Mantova (both Italy) and Helsinki (Finland).
ArtLab has always been at the intersection between very different ecosystems. Since 2006, the platform has involved 12 cities, 1700 speakers, over 6000 cultural professionals, calling into question more than 50 partner in the construction of each event. The inter-sectorial network of partners is composed of civil and banking foundations, cooperatives, companies, public bodies, international networks, universities, research centers and many others. As Ugo Bacchella, president of the Fitzcarraldo Foundation that promotes ArtLab, recounts: "It is not just numbers: ArtLab has always brought together heterogeneous voices and requests from multiple territories (not only from large metropolitan areas). The partnerships developed in these years are the clear testimony of the increasing number of those who feel the need to reorient the relationship with culture, seen as an indispensable ingredient for social, technological and entrepreneurial innovation ".
The first main event in BASE Milano ended on June 28th: 24 sessions with more than 400 Italian and international speakers, including policy makers, museum directors, arts managers, European foundations and networks but also entrepreneurs, investors and credit institutions. MateraHub, project leader of EU Heritage and partner of ArtLab, took part in the event in Milan and distributed communication materials of the EU Heritage to the audience and speakers.
Within the Symbola Soft Economy Festival, on July 4th in Treia, ArtLab hosted the final appointment of the “Study Commission for the complex management of the cultural heritage of the Mibac - the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage-. On September 11th, ArtLab will move to Helsinki in the frame of the ninth edition of the European Creative Industries Summit 2019, organizing a session dedicated to the dialogue between cultural and creative companies and the business world; ArtLab will return to Italy on September 27th, where within the festival FATTICULT in Mantua, virtuous examples of valorisation and reinterpretation of public and private archives will explore the main enabling conditions, the opportunities and criticalities of the archival transformation processes.
In Bari-Matera (October 24th – 26th) ArtLab will continue the debate on the issues emerged during the first Milanese event: public-private partnerships for the enhancement of heritage for cultural and social innovation, libraries as cultural and social institutions for the territories, the legacy of the European Capitals of Culture and much more! During the event, a number of sessions will be dedicated to the topic of enhancing Cultural heritage and will concern themes in line with the EU Heritage project.
